Temporomandibular Joint Disorder/ Dysfunction (TMD)

 Temporomandibular Joint Disorder/ Dysfunction is an umbrella term for myriad of conditions which can affect the architecture and function of the primary jaw joint. Symptoms often include:

  • Popping, clicking or locking of the jaw
  • Headaches
  • Muscle pain
  • Abnormal tooth wear

If an abnormality is present in the jaw or the bite of your teeth, it can cause symptoms of TMD to develop.

How is the Temporomandibular Joint (TMJ) treated?

We will assess the function of your TMD during your exam to determine whether or not it is functioning properly. Several types of TMJ disorders can be addressed through methods such as bite splint therapy, Botox, jaw exercises, anti-inflammatory medication, laser and surgery.
